AFM Northern Region Prevention & Education Programs
Prevention and education concerning alcohol,
other drugs and gambling is an important focus of the Addictions Foundation
of
Prevention and education activities include the delivery of alcohol, drug and gambling awareness sessions for community caregivers, teachers and other professionals. As well, regional staff responds to numerous requests for public information and education presentations in a variety of settings.
Education & Training Courses
Northern Region staff deliver training courses on addictions and skills management of alcohol, drug and gambling related problems. Some AFM courses are accepted for credit by other institutions. AFM staff also develop and deliver customized training based on the special needs identified by the customers.
Community Consultation
Northern Region staff assist communities that wish to take charge of addressing issues related to alcohol, drugs and gambling. Staff work closely with communities to assist them in developing their own solutions to their issues.
Information Services & Resources
Northern Region staff provide information and orientation on AFM programs and services to the general public and professionals. Topics include how to recognize and an individual who may be having problems associated with alcohol or drug use to gambling, as well as how to refer an individual to AFM's programs.
Pamphlets, brochures and information on alcohol, drugs and gambling are available at all regional offices. Materials for community displays and event, such as health promotion days, are provided on request. In addition, referrals to other sources for information can be made.
Occasional Service Requests
Northern Region staff provide customize sessions based on requests from individuals, organizations, schools, caregivers, service groups and other community organizations. Staff also participates in community health promotion events, career fair, conferences and workshops.
Employment Assistance Programs
Regional staff provide information sessions and training courses for labour and management related to effective EAP programs. The purpose of EAPs is to provide a program whereby employees with a personal problem of any kind will know where helping resources are available.

The Rural and Northern Youth Intervention Strategy services are provided from The Pas on a weekly bases by the RNYIS counselor working in the Frontier Collegiate Institute.
