The Snow Lake Centre on Family Violence was established in 1982 and became incorporated in 1984.  The Centre was established out of a need in the community to address the growing problem of abuse against women.  Over the years it has become understood that addressing the issues of the family in holistic perspective is more beneficial to all.  Thus in 1995 the Centre became known as the Snow Lake Family Resource Centre.

The Centre is a non-profit, community based organization and is governed by a volunteer board of directors.  The Centre provides emergency intervention to families and/or individuals in crisis situations.  The Centre also offers counseling, emotional support, information, referrals, educational workshops within the community and a resource library that is open to the public.

The Centre services a semi-isolated northern community with a population of approximately 1300.  We are located approximately 700km north of Winnipeg.  We are also located over 200km away from the nearest community.  Due to our remoteness and small population we have no government funded social service agencies located in Snow Lake.  The Child & Family Services, Mental Health, and Addictions Foundation of Manitoba travel to Snow Lake twice a month.  Thus, we are a major support system in our community.

We are here to provide support for change!
